Abstract

1,200,453. Pistons. WELLWORTHY Ltd. 13 Oct., 1967 [13 Oct., 1966], No. 45877/66. Heading F2T. A piston for an I.C. engine comprises a body of high strength material coated with an aluminium alloy. The body may be, for example, of spheroidal graphite iron, malleable cast iron, steel or nickle alloy and left in its as-cast condition or roughly machined before a coating of high silicon aluminium alloy is spray deposited on to the skirt and crown or only on to the thrust faces of the skirt; alternatively the coating may be applied by casting or plating.
