Abstract

1,200,201. Railway systems. SOC. MTE. 12 Sept., 1967 [12 Sept., 1966], No. 41663/67. Heading B7L. A vehicle comprises a body 1, Fig. 1, the weight of which is supported by running wheels 2 engaging track rails 8, A.C. electrical energizing windings 6, Fig. 3, being mounted in a magnetic core 7 carried in side members 4 interconnected by cross-pieces 3, the windings being located above and co-operating with the running rails 8 to form linear induction motors. The pieces 3 and members 4 are supported on the wheel axle-trees and are unsprung. The electrical A.C. supply may be obtained from external overhead conductor(s) as described with reference to Fig. 5 (not shown), or from an engine-driven alternator, as described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown).
