Abstract

1299926 Cables WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 18 March 1970 [24 March 1969] 12974/70 Heading H1A An electric cable has a metallic shield 14 wrapped round the core so that its edges overlap, a coating of adhesive having first been applied to the shield on one face 21 and a strip 19 along one edge of the other face to seal the overlapping edges. The shield can be a metallic tape e.g. aluminium, wrapped longitudinally round the core. The adhesive may be on either the inside or outside major face of the shield, and the cable may be covered with a plastic insulating material. The adhesive may be heat sensitive and heat for bonding it can be obtained by induction heating of the metallic shield, by applying a hot insulating plastic jacket over the cable, or from hot gases. The adhesive layer may be an ethylene acrylic acid copolymer.
