Abstract
1298896 Photo-sensitive aluminium support containing copper FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 28 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 41631/70 Heading G2C A photo-sensitive plate comprising an aluminium support containing 0À05 to 1À0% by weight of copper has thereon a porous oxide layer formed by anodization and a photo-sensitive material present in pores in the oxide layer. The support preferably contains 0À12 to 0À30% by weight of copper. The photo-sensitive material may be a silver halide, a diazo compound, ammonium iron citrate and a red prussiate, an organic halogen compound and diphenylamine, a compound which changes colour depending upon pH and a compound convertible to an acid or base by light irradiation, a quinone diazide derivative, a lenco compound (e.g. 4,41 -tetramethyldiphenylmethane, Michler's hydrol, Michler's hydrol methylether, bis-(4,4<SP>1</SP>-bis-dimethylamine benzhydryl) ether, 4,4<SP>1</SP>-tetramethyl diaminodiphenyl methyl benzoate, tetramethyl benzidine, "Crystal" Violet lactone or "Crystal" Violet carbinol base) and an organic halogen generator (e.g. carbon tetrabromide), or a photo-chromic dye. A hydrophilic colloid e.g. gelatine may also be present in the pores. The anodized aluminium sheet may be treated with an aqueous solution of a photo-sensitive material, whereby the photo-sensitive material is deposited in the pores of the oxide layer. The anodized aluminium sheet may be treated with an aqueous solution of silver nitrate and subsequently with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal halide to form the silver halide in situ. Ultrasonic vibrations may be used to assist the deposition of the photo-sensitive material or of a solution for its formation. The aluminium may also be treated with an oxidizing agent at the same time or subsequent to the deposition of the photo-sensitive material or treatment with one of the solutions for forming a photosensitive material in the pores of the oxide layer. The oxidizing agent may be an alkali metal ferricyanate, a bichromate or a chromate. The aluminium sheet may have been anodized in an electrolyte comprising oxalic acid and an alkali metal oxalate at a current density of 0À5-5 amp/ dm<SP>2</SP> at 40-70C. and a pH of 1-5. The colour of the image and non-image areas is improved by use of this support.
