Abstract
1294360 Photographic processes KALLE A G 11 Nov 1969 [9 Dec 1968] 55102/69 Heading G2C A process for producing a continuous tone printing plate comprises exposing to a continuous tone original a material comprising a support roughened to a depth between 0À5 and 40 microns coated with a layer containing (i) a diazonium salt or a condensate thereof with an aldehyde, or an o-nitro-benzaldehyde and (ii) a non-lightsensitive compound which absorbs light in the region of the maximum absorption of the lightsensitive compound and developing to remove the more soluble areas. Specified light-absorbers are ultraviolet absorbers such as azobenzines, azomethines, dinitrophenyls, benzophenones, anthraquinones, chalcones, pyrazolines, benzotriazoles or dyes. The layer may also contain a narlak or resole resin, polyvinyl acetate or polyvinylpyrrolidone. In the examples, a mechanically roughened aluminium support optionally treated with polyvinylphosphoric acid is coated with the light-sensitive layer and exposed to a step wedge to produce more steps than a material without the light-absorber.
