Abstract

1297110 Selective printing XEROX CORP 28 May 1970, [2 June 1969] 25629/70 Heading B6F An electrostatic printer comprises a recording medium 16 fed continuously past a printing station including an assembly 40 of printing styli mounted on an endless belt 44, the styli forming latent electrostatic images which are developed with electroscopic powder by a brush 50 and fixed at a fusing station having a heating element 27 in a housing 28. The printer has a top cover 12 which is hinged at 10 for access, the cover 12 carrying a roll of recording medium 16, a backing electrode 24, a support 26 for the recording medium, the housing 28, and a feed roller 30 and idler roller 33 for driving the recording medium. Loading the recording medium is therefore effected by lifting the cover 12, and manually rotating the roller 30 by a thumb wheel 74. The recording medium is tensioned by a spring-biased drag arm 20. Overall drives.-In operation, a motor 80 drives, through a belt (82, Fig. 2) a shaft 52 on which the powder brush 50 is mounted, and a shaft 98 which drives a sprocket wheel for the band 44 through a clutch 106. The shaft 52 further drives a shaft 56 through reduction gearing to drive a pick-up roller 54 for the powder. The shaft 56 further drives a belt (94) which the thumb wheel 74 engages when the cover 12 is in operative position, to advance the recording medium 16. Illuminating devices.-A lamp 70 and reflector 72 are provided to illuminate the developed image at the fixing station for viewing through a window 64.
