Abstract

1296742 Registered transfer XEROX CORP 28 May 1970 [4 June 1969] 25645/70 Heading G2H A transfer drum 20 in an electrostatic multicolour copier is normally held away from a selenium belt 12 by a spring but is urged into contact with the belt for image transfer to a copy sheet held on the drum 20 by a gripping device controlled by a programmer to release the copy sheet after a predetermined number of registered image transfers to the sheet. The drum 20 comprises a metallic cylinder 72 having an electrically conductive blanket 71 therearound, is connected to a suitable potential source, and is supported on rotatable arms 77, 81 by shafts 74, 76. Arms 77 and 81 are rocked about shaft 78 by cams 85 by an amount sufficient to disengage contact between roller 20 and the belt. Radially movable elements 95 are provided on the drum 20 which are moved outwardly, by rotation of a shaft 98, through openings (96), Fig.3 (not shown) from an inner position to a first outer position, Fig. 5 (not shown) where the sheet edge is engaged and gripped by element 95 and fingers 105, and to a second outer position Fig.7 whereby the sheet may be removed from the drum 20 by strip-out fingers 130. Rotation of the shaft 98 is controlled by a cam means comprising a linkage system mounted externally of the drum 20 having cam surfaces 120, 121 engaged by a follower 122.
