Abstract
1,088,857. Electro-static printing. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Oct. 16, 1964 [Oct.18, 1963], No.42238/64. Heading G2H. Electro-static images are prepared by placing an electrically insulating receiving sheet in overlying contact with the surface of a master having an image of electrically conducting and insulating surface areas carried on an electrically conductive support, electrically charging the outer surface of the receiving sheet to form an electrostatic image thereon, applying an electro-static developer to the charged surface of the receiving sheet and depositing a toner image thereon. The printing master may be prepared by exposing a charged photo-conductor layer on a conductive support and either (a) electrolytically developing image with a solution containing ions of Ag, Fe, or Ni to form a metal deposit on the image areas, (e. g. by using a viscose sponge containing a solution of 2-hydroxyethylamine/ethylene sulphide condensate, AgNo 3 , magnesium acetate, acetic acid and 2-diethylaminoethanol); or (b) developing with a powder having a different conductivity from that of the photo-conductive layer; in (b) the conductivity difference may be increased by storing the plate in the dark, and optionally heating by infrared or corona charging, the plate, to reduce to conductivity of the photo-conductor, or by exposing the plate to light to increase the conductivity of the photo-conductor. The electrostatic image on the insulating may be developed with a dispersion of lighographic ink in cyclohexane transferred to another sheet and/or fixed (e.g. by heat or pressure).
