Abstract
1296681 Moulding fibrous material SOC GENERALE DES PRODUITS REFRACTAIRES 10 Sept 1969 [12 Sept 1968] 44696/69 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions C1 D2 and F2] A composite product comprises two or more layers felted together, each based on mineral fibres, and having different resistances to heat, due to differences in the mineral fibre components. The most heat-resistant layer has one face exposed, and if there are more than two layers, they are disposed in order of their heatresistance. In Example 1, two layers each comprise 95% fibres and 5% binder; in one layer the fibres are of ceramic comprising mainly alumina and silica, whereas the fibres of the other layer are high in lime and silica, with a little alumina and magnesia. A shaped article can be made in the mould shown in Fig. 1. The male cone 1 is provided with holes through which a slurry of fibres in liquid, e.g. water, can pass, so that the fibres remain on the mesh screen 3 on a metal support, while the liquid is removed by vacuum through the outlet 4. When enough fibres have been deposited, the mat is pressed by pushing in the cone 1. It is then raised so that the next layer of fibres can be deposited. A mechanical reinforcement may be embedded in the thickness of the product.
