Abstract

1296247 Printing apparatus J R DURAND 7 Sept 1970 [5 Sept 1969] 42834/70 Heading B6C A strip of material 1 is printed with a multiplicity of different images by an endless band printing belt 4 comprising n printing blocks where n is a prime number. The blocks are inked by a device 11. If a larger number of different images are required an additional endless belt 7 is used side by side with the belt 4 and having m blocks (m a prime number) such that the periodicity of impressions produced on the strip 1 comprises n x m different images. In an alternative form multi-impression images are produced on the strip 1 by using the blocks on the belt 4 as offset surfaces and printing block belts 8 and 10 (p and q prime impression numbers, respectively) as p ate surfaces. In a further embodiment the letterpress belt 4 is used in association with the offset belts 8 and 10 to imprint n x p x q images.
