Abstract

1295761 Traverse mechanism; varying stroke BARMAG BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 11 Feb 1970 [1 April 1969] 6479/70 Heading D1J In a winding machine of the type having a traversing yarn guide 8 connected with a cam drum 15 and guided through toggle lever 9 in a pivotal guide rail 18 whose position is adjustable by increasing package diameter on the one hand and by a periodic reciprocating movement on the other, the guide rail 18 is connected with an adjusting member 26 through a clutch whereby the effect of the increasing package diameter can be optionally applied or eliminated. The clutch may be in the form of a cam member 23 slidable on the rail 18. The member 23 has a surface 27 which contacts a cam 28 which in turn contacts a lever 29 fixed to the package support arm 3. The rail 18 is pivotally mounted at 20 and is spring urged downwards at the end remote from the member 23. The member 23 has a groove 24 which engages a pin 25 fixed to the adjusting member 26 which is preferably a rail extending throughout the length of the machine. In operation for the formation of a conicalended package, as the package diameter increases, the arm 3 is moved outwards and consequently also the lever 29. The lever 29 is tapered such that as the arm 3 moves outwards, the contact surface of the lever 29 moves away from the cam 28. The spring 22 thus causes the rail 18 to tilt about the pivot 20 to maintain contact between the member 23, cam 28 and lever 29. The tilting of the rail 18 towards the horizontal pivots the guide 8 and shortens the stroke of the traverse. To avoid hard edges, the adjusting member 26 is given a slight reciprocatory movement which causes the member 23 to slide on the rail 18 and the cam to ride up and down the surface 27. Since the lever 29 is fixed by the package diameter, the cam 28 causes the member 23 and thus the rail 18 to swing up and down about the pivot 20 and thus reciprocate the guide 8 to a small extent. To change from a conical-ended package to a plain-ended package, the adjusting element 26 is moved to disengage the member 23 from the cam 28 which is urged towards the rail 18 by a leaf spring. The lever 29 thus does not contact the cam 28 and the increasing package diameter does not affect the length of the stroke. A reciprocatory motion imparted to the adjusting element 26 still causes the rail 18 to pivot about the point 20. In an alternative arrangement, the member 23 is fixed to the adjusting element 26. The lever 29 is in this case fixed to the arm 3 by a swivel joint or may be made of an elastic material. The arrangement works in a similar manner to that described above except that the rail 18 is provided with a cam surface which engages a further cam surface on the member 23 so that when the adjusting element 26 is moved to change from the formation of a conical-ended package to a plain-ended package, the said cam surfaces engage and disengage the lever 29 on the package support arm 3. A reciprocatory movement imparted to the element 26 again causes the rail 18 to swing up and down about its pivot. In a further arrangement, the member 23 is again fixed on the element 26, but a flexible transmission link in the form of a Bowden cable is provided to transmit movement of the arm 3 due to increasing package diameter to the rail 18 of the guide 8. One end of the cable engages a cam surface on the member 23 and movement of the end of the cable due to a reciprocatory movement of the element 26 causes the rail 18 to swing about the pivot 20. The effect of the increasing package diameter is eliminated by a pin, on the back of a slide surrounding the end of the cable, engaging a further cam surface on the member 23.
