Abstract
1293903 Determination of haemoglobin in blood ABBOTT LABORATORIES 27 Oct 1969 [28 Oct 1968] 50946/68 Heading B1X Blood samples are screened for haemoglobin content by a method comprising mixing a sample of whole blood with a reagent comprising a solution of percloric acid in glacial acetic acid, the solution containing an indicator, the amount of perchloric acid in the reagent used being that necessary for complete neutralization of a preselected heamoglobin content of whole blood. The colour obtained in, the reaction mixture shows whether the haemoglobin content of the test sample is above or below the preselected value. The reagent may contain 0.001% to 0.02% perchloric acid and 0.1 mg per 10 ml reagent of "Abbott Blue" indicator, Abbott Blue being a (described) component of C. I. Solvent Blue 19. A test kit comprises disposed in a container drawing off a number of capillary tubes for selected volumes of blood, and a number of closed vials each containing a predetermined amount of the test reagent, the vials and their closures being made of or lined with material resistant to the reagent. The vials &c. may be neutral glass bottles with polytetrafluoroethylene disc and screw cap closures.
