Abstract

1293685 Coated sheet material KUAG TEXTIL AG 22 May 1970 [23 May 1969] 24893/70 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions D1 and D2] A floor covering is prepared by applying a hot polyvinyl chloride coating to an air or water laid web of randomly orientated staple fibres is reinforced during its formation by parallel polyamide and or polyester elements running the length of the web and contained in bundles, one or more layers, coarse mesh skeletons or woven fabrics. The elements may be of non-circular cross-section and may comprise yarns, tows or continuous filaments. The staple fibres may be of non- circular cross-section, hollow, multicomponent stretched natural mineral or synthetic fibres. In one embodiment the web is air laid onto one or more perforated rollers, the reinforcing elements being introduced immediately before the perforated rollers. Alternatively the reinforcing elements are introduced inside the flotation zone of a wet laying apparatus in front of the squeezing rollers. The web may be strengthened by needling, the reinforcing elements being placed near the surface of the web opposite to that entered by the needles. Thermoplastic binder may be applied, followed by hot calendering.
