Abstract

1293126 Foamable vinyl chloride polymer compositions JAPANESE GEON CO Ltd 8 April 1970 16786/70 Heading C3C A foamable resin composition comprises: (a) a vinyl chloride resin; (b) 0À5 to 50 parts, per 100 parts by weight of (a), of a copolymer derived from (i) 90-99 weight per cent of methyl methacrylate and 1-10 weight per cent of an unsaturated nitrile; or (ii) 75-98 weight per cent of methyl methacrylate, 1-24 weight per cent of an alkyl acrylate and 1-10 weight per cent of an unsaturated nitrile, the sum of the amount of the alkyl acrylate and the unsaturated nitrile being 2-25 weight per cent of the copolymer; or (iii) 30-98 weight per cent of methyl methacrylate, 1-20 weight per cent of an unsaturated nitrile and 1-50 weight per cent of an aromatic vinyl compound; or (iv) 45-98 weight per cent of methyl methacrylate, 1-25 weight per cent of an alkyl acrylate and 1-30 weight per cent of an aromatic vinyl compound; or (v) 45-97 weight per cent of methyl methacrylate, 1-24 weight per cent of an alkyl acrylate, 1-10 weight per cent of an unsaturated nitrile and 1-30 weight per cent of an aromatic vinyl compound, the sum of the amounts of the alkyl acrylate and the unsaturated nitrile being 2-25 weight per cent of the copolymer; and (c) a blowing agent, e.g. azodicarbonamide. The acrylate may be ethyl acrylate; the nitrile may be acrylonitrile; the aromatic vinyl compound may be styrene; the vinyl chloride resin may be polyvinyl chloride, a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer or a graft polymer of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and vinyl chloride. The composition may also contain tribasic lead sulphate, lead stearate, an acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer, dioctyl phthalate, dibutyl tin maleate, butyl stearate, an epoxidized soybean oil, barium and zinc stearates, triphenyl phosphite and/or zinc octoates.
