Abstract
1292953 Film-forming compositions; cosmetics HYDRON Ltd 20 Oct 1969 [22 Oct 1968 20 Dec 1968] 50043/68 and 60755/68 Heading A5B [Also in Division C3] Compositions, which may be applied to human beings and animals comprise (i) a random copolymer obtainable by copolymerising (a) at least one alkoxy alkyl acrylate or methacrylate with (b) at least one different alkoxy alkyl acrylate or methacrylate, or at least one hydroxy alkyl acrylate or methacrylate, or at least one alkyl acrylate or methacrylate, and optionally a minor amount of a further monomer, and (ii) a suitable carrier. The carrier may be a solvent, or a liquid which will form an emulsion with the copolymer. Specified solvents are amyl acetate, isopropanol, toluene, ethanol, ethyl acetate, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone or water, and mixtures thereof. The compositions may be used as film-forming wound dressings, or in cosmetic preparations. Modifiers such as pigments, another resin, a plasticiser, a humectant or a water-soluble polymer, may be present. Examples disclose brush-on film forming wound dressings comprising copolymers of ethoxyethyl methacrylate and hydroxyethylmethacrylate in solution in ethylacetate, ethanol, isopropanol/water, and in solution in ethanol and ethyl acetate, together with glycerol and polyvinyl pyrrolidone. The films are resistant to water but may be removed by soaking in it. They are also transparent.
