Abstract

1292714 Laminates; seaming MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd 6 Jan 1971 [26 Jan 1970] 3685/70 Headings B5K and B5N [Also in Division E1] A length of roof-insulating material comprises a flexible sheet 1 of foamed resin placed between two leaves 2 of thermoplastic resin film at least one of which extends from a face of the foamed sheet to form a convenient margin 3 of film along at least one of the long edges of the sheet. A convenient margin is defined as being of such dimensions that it can be used to form an insulating system with a water vapour resistant joint between adjacent lengths of the insulating material, by arranging the lengths so that the margin of film overlaps the joints between the lengths. The foamed resin may be a polymer or copolymer of ethylene, propylene, butadiene, styrene, vinyl toluene, 2-methyl styrene, acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate or ethyl acrylate. The thermoplastic resin may be a polyvinyl halide or a polyolefine, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene or polypropylene. In a preferred embodiment, the layers of film are sealed together along a or each long edge of the length of material to enclose the foamed sheet in an envelope of film.
