Abstract

1292488 Brake arrangements; vehicle wheels KARL KASSBOHRER FAHRZEUGWERKE GmbH 7 May 1970 [29 May 1969] 21975/70 Heading B7H A road vehicle axle and brake assembly comprises a pair of hollow semi-axles 6 each having a pair of wheels 4 mounted on a hub and connected to a part of the vehicle chassis by a swinging arm 1, with a brake assembly 5 mounted at an inner end portion of each semiaxle, which has a shaft 7 passing therethrough and connecting the respective hub with a rotary part of the brake assembly. The brake assembly 5 consists of a brake drum 5a with a lining 5b, and two brake shoes (not shown) are mounted on supports 5c which are fixed on the semi-axle 6. A brake actuator including a cam BN acts on the brake shoes. The shaft 7 is inserted in the semi-axle by a push fit and is releasably secured to the brake drum 5a which may alternatively be a disc brake having an appropriate brake actuator. The arm 1 may swing in relation to the chassis to the extent of the maximum play allowed by a spring 2.
