Abstract

1291837 Preserving hay and straw PAN BRITANNICA INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 May 1970 [4 June 1969] 28192/69 Heading A1F A method of reducing deterioration in hay or straw comprises applying sodium nitrite. A formate such as calcium formate may be mixed with the nitrite, the mixture being applied in dry, particulate form or in aqueous solution to the bales of hay or straw as they are stacked. The preferred amounts are:-sodium nitrite 0.02 to 2 pounds per ton of hay and calcium formate 85% by weight of applied mixture.
