Abstract
1290460 Dyeing webs E KUSTERS 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970] 20491/71 Heading D1L Liquid is applied to a material web 8, for the dyeing of it, by a doctor plate 1, inclined to the horizontal, down which the liquid flows onto the web, the plate having a plurality of parallel channels 2 running down it in the line of inclination. As shown the supply of liquid to the upper edge of the plate 1 is from a roller 4 rotating in a trough 6, the web passing over a roller 9 and moving in the direction 10. The channels are defined by ridges between them, and they may be constructed by L- shaped sections attached to a base plate, by the casting or cutting of a one-piece plate, or by the moulding of a plastics material applied to a base plate. The ridges dividing the channels may extend beyond the edges of the plate to improve the flow of liquid, the ends of the bases of the channels being either parallel to the web being coated or notched. An example is given of a carpet being dyed by the device.
