1288781 Sewage systems B C BURNS 15 Oct 1969 50798/69 Heading E1C Sewage is conveyed to a treatment station by a system including an intermediate collection station from which the sewage is sucked intermittently through a vacuum valve. Collecting tanks 16 are provided to which sewage flows by gravity from sources 12, whence it is sucked intermittently in the form of "plugs" through valves 76 to transfer stations 26 and then pumped to the treatment station. Plug reformers 27 are employed to aid the re-formation of the plugs, and allow to aid comminution and aeration thereof. These re-formers consist of single or multiple helices in the conduits (Figs. 7-10, not shown). Pressure clean-out valves 45 and/or air bleed valves 40 can be provided in the conduits, through which air can be added to aid the flow, or chemicals can be added. In the system of Fig. 15, remote positive, Po, and negative, V, pressure sources are provided. Automatic or manual direct or remote control of the vacuum valves 76 and of the transfer station equipment may be provided. At the collecting tank the sewage level in compartment 60 is checked by devices 98 (sensing at two levels) and 96, which actuates an alarm circuit to open valve 76. Automatic control depending on actuation and de-actuation of device 98 is provided, dependent on a sufficient vacuum, the valve 76 being operated by a motor 74.
