Abstract

1287233 Food-cutting apparatus ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 22 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 10693/71 Heading A4C [Also in Division A2] A slit is made around the periphery of a muffin or similar product mid-way between the top and bottom thereof and extending inwardly a distance of between <SP>3</SP>/ 16 and # inch to facilitate subsequent forking to separate the product into top and bottom halves. Apparatus for making the slit comprises a plurality of cutters 46, an undulating guide 32, and a feed conveyer comprising upper and lower belts 37, 38. Each cutter comprises a rotary cutting disc and a coaxial, separately driven drum, the arrangement being such that muffins &c. fed into the apparatus by the conveyer are rolled by the drums along the guide 32 and slit peripherally by the cutting discs. The depth of the slits may be varied by changing the diameter of the drums and adjustment of the guide 32.
