Abstract

1284444 Spiral staircases ARTHUR GUINNESS SON & CO (DUBLIN) Ltd 10 Feb 1970 [18 Feb 1969] 8696/69 Heading E1B A spiral staircase comprises a plurality of superimposed step units each having a tubular boss 1 with a channel section step 7 attached thereto, the boss having end plates 2, 3 welded thereon with holes 4 and 5 for attaching to adjacent units by bolts. A ring 6 may be placed between adjacent end plates. One end plate may have a plurality of tapped holes 4 and the other may have annular openings to allow attachment at different angles. The end plate may project from the end of the boss. The end plates may be replaced by rectangular straps spanning the boss. After a number of units have been assembled together the tube may be filled with reinforced concrete. The lower unit is bolted to the floor and upper unit to a landing. Ballasters for supporting a handrail pass through one step and are bolted to the step below. The bosses may be formed with tubular reduced diameter projections to provide interconnection. The units may be metal, plastics or wood. Three step units having none threaded holes may be held together by an elongated bolt having two threaded ends to receive nuts.
