Abstract

1282038 Limit switches K MAECKER 30 Sept 1969 [15 Nov 1968] 48025/69 Heading G1N A malfunction in a limit switch controlling, for example, the movement of a machine tool, is indicated by providing two switching devices 3À1, 3À2 which are both normally actuated by the proximity of the moving part to energize a relay, via an amplifier 6À1, the switching devices being connected to a further amplifier 13, via an arrangement of inverters 7, 9, AND members 8, 10, an OR member 11, and a timing member 12 so arranged that if the switching devices are not actuated within a pre-set (by timing device 12) time of each other, the further amplifier, 13 emits an alarm signal. As shown, the circuit is in the state when neither switching device is actuated. If one switch e.g. 3.1, is actuated, AND member 10 has input conditions L, L and thus passes a signal to the OR and timing members. If the second switch 3.2 is not actuated within the predetermined time to thus switch off member 10, then the amplifier 13 is energized to emit the alarm signal. A malfunction of the amplifier 6À1, e.g. due to a faulty supply source, may be indicated by connecting its output 0À1 to one input of a three-input AND member (14), the other two inputs of member (14) being obtained from the outputs of the inverters 7, 9, and the output of member (14) being connected to amplifier 13, Fig. 4 (not shown). The switching devices may be oscillators for use with moving metallic parts, or semi-conductor members having their resistance charged by a magnetic field, or a read switch for use with magnetic moving parts. The sensitive member of the switching device may be shielded so that only a part of a certain shape may enter the shield to actuate the switching device, Fig. 5, or 6-8 (not shown).
