Abstract
1282095 Piezo-electric generators RONSON PRODUCTS Ltd 30 July 1969 [2 Aug 1968] 37127/68 Heading H2A In a piezo-electric igniter in which the piezoelement is supported under compression in a mounting for engagement by a striker, a metal block is provided between the end of the element opposite that which is struck and the mounting and is constructed so as to reverberate in sympathy with the element when the latter is struck. In Fig. 1 the mounting comprises a tubular housing 5 having at one end a block in the form of a stack of metal discs 8 against which one end of the element 7 bears whilst the other end of the housing carries a spring-loaded striker 2 normally engaging the other end of the element. Pressure on a spring- loaded push-button 1, causes springs 3, 4 to depress the striker until they are moved out of engagement therewith by cam surfaces 13, 14 on the housing. It is stated that the reverberations in the element and disc assembly resulting from the impact of the striker produce several high voltage peaks. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the element 25, is wedged in a recess 29 in a mounting 22 by a bridge plate 28 which produces the reverberations. The striker is a pivoted hammer 27. Plate 28 may be replaced by a projecting finger integral with the mounting.
