Abstract

1281792 TiO 2 on Al particles STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 28 April 1971 11841/71 Heading C1N [Also in Division H1] A titanium halide, e.g. titanium tetrachloride, is hydrolysed in the presence of aluminium powder of particle size up to 50 microns so as to coat the particles with a layer up to 1000 Š thick of titanium dioxide which may be oxygendeficient. The reaction may take place in a fluidized bed, or, in a continuous process, the powder may be allowed to fall down a column against a flow of nitrogen entraining titanium tetrachloride and water vapour.
