Abstract
1281512 Electrostatic curtain coating HENRY W PEABODY (INDUSTRIAL) Ltd 21 July 1969 [19 April 1968] 18538/68 Headings B2E and B2L The surface of an article is provided with a coating formed from a mixture of at least two components by a curtain coating process in which an electrostatic field is applied to the curtain. In the described embodiment, the liquid components are supplied through tubes 13, 14 to tubular portions 10a, 10b on opposite sides of a blade 10c. The liquid emerges from a series of holes 15, 16 and flows down the opposite faces of the blade 10c and contact and mix at edge 10 and flow therefrom as a curtain. A high voltage supply 29 is connected to the blade via a cable 17 which is in series with a resistor 22 and electrical connection with the edge 10d is made by means of a conductive layer 23, e.g. of carbon or graphite in the blade. The article 26 to be coated is carried by a belt 27 through the curtain and an electrostatic field is applied between the blade 10 and the article 26. Two component coating systems which may be applied are resin/ catalyst systems, e.g. for forming polyurethane foams onto articles such as building elements.
