1280620 Deformable load-bearing members H A NELL 9 June 1969 [8 June 1968 11 Feb 1969] 10436/72 Divided out of 1279292 Heading F2S A load bearing member for use in buildings consists of a slab 16 or 17 of deformable material having upper and lower planar major faces and edges bounding the slab, and a plurality of holes 18, 19, 20 extending through the slab from one major face to the other, the distribution and/or the dimension of the holes being such that, over a substantial distance from one edge, the mean density of the slab increases progressively from the edge in a direction perpendicular to it, but, over a substantial distance from any other edge, the mean density of the slab does not decrease from this other edge in a direction perpendicular to the first direction. In the slab 16 (only half shown) the mean density in the second direction also increases, the mean density therefore being greatest in the centre of the pad, whereas in the slab 17 the mean density in the second direction is constant. The slab may be made of a chloroprene polymer or a lead containing material.
