Abstract

1280470 False twist device; crimping yarns ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd 21 Jan 1970 [31 Oct 1968] 51563/68 Headings D1D and D1F A false twist device comprises a roller 13 with guides 15 and 16 which guide the yarn over the roller such that the yarn drives the roller and false twist is inserted in the yarn upstream of the roller. The roller has a low friction area 13a and a high friction area 13b e.g. of polyurethane. After passing over these two areas the yarn is guided circumferentially about a further portion of the roller to drive it. This latter portion may be of greater diameter than the rest of the roller and be of hard wearing, high friction material, e.g. matt chrome finished steel or brass. The further portion may be interchangable so that different twisting rates can be obtained. The device may be used in crimping a yarn 12 from a bobbin passing through a tensioner 17, a tensioner 18, a heater 19, a cooling device 21, the false twister 11 and forwarding rollers 22 to pass to take up means 23. An additional heater may be provided after the false twister.
