127,833. Hansen, E. D. March 21, 1917, [Convention date]. Reciprocating o r oscillating b a t c h - mixers.-Apparatus for mixing liquids in closed vessels comprises one or more loose or loosely suspended mixing- members so constructed or arranged as to move through the middle of the vessel when it is inverted or otherwise suitably moved, and cause the central portion of liquid to pass towards the wall or periphery of the vessel. The apparatus is used in the sterilization of milk &c. The mixing-member may be a loose ball, or, as shown in Fig. 2, a perforated disk M' adapted to slide from end to end on a rod R mounted in recesses in the bottom B and lid or cover L of the vessel. Fig. 3 shows a mixer consisting of a flap M<2> having pivots P at each end, which are loosely mounted in bearings B' inside the vessel.
