' STILL.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented May 2d, 1921.
Application filed January 16, 1920. Serial No. 351,807.
To @ZZ whom t may concern Be it known that l, Nniiiron BoLoeA, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful improvements in Stills, of whichthe following is a specification.
The obj ect of my present sole invention is the provision of a simple, eicient, easily operated and easily cleaned still, designed more especially, though not necessarily, for the production of fruit brandy and the lilre.
This application is a substitute for applicants abandoned application Serial No. 182,164, filed July 23, 1917. v
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
ln the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a diametrical section of the still constituting the best practical embodiment of my invention of which I am cognizant.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the foraminous recept-acle comprised in the still.
Fig. 4l is a detail view showing one of the loops or eyes in the said foraminous receptacle.
F ig. 5 is a detail view of the gravitational valve complementary to the central dis charge orifice of the foraminous receptacle.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding part-s in all of the views of the drawings.
Among other elements my novel still includes a casing body 1 having an exterior and apertured iiange 2 at its upper end, and also having a diametrically disposed channel 3 in its bottom; said channel 3 being in communication with a drainage pipe d that is provided with a faucet 5.
The said casing body 1 is equipped iwith a cap 6 having an apertured flange 7, and also having a central flanged opening` 8 and a bar 9 bridging said opening and provided with a central aperture 10. ein apertured annulus 11 surrounds the bony 1 below the flange 2 thereof, and is connected with the flange 7 of the cap 6 through the medium of bolts 12. It will also be understood that an upper annulus 13 is superimposed upon the flange of the cap 6 and receives the said bolts 12 so as to strengthen the connection of the cap 6 to the casing body 1.
Reinovably arranged in the casing body 1,
and maintained in spaced relation thereto, as indicated by la in Fig` 1, is a foraminous receptacle 15 having a central discharge aperture 16, and also having an outwardly extending apertured flange 17, the latter being preferably of sheet-metal and fixedly joined alt-its inner edge to the upper edge of the receptacle 15. L ceptacle is provided interiorly with four rniore or less) loops or eyes 18, and has detachably secured on its bottom an upstanding bridge loop 19 in which is a central anerture 21"). The detachable connection oflthe bridge loop 19 to the bottom of the receptacle 15 is preferably effected by turn-buttons 21, as illustrated. Detachably connected to the side wall of the receptacle 15 at diametrically opposite peints, and preterably threugh the medium of turn-buttons 22. are the pendent end portions 23 of a de-Y tachable cross-bai' in which is a enti'al aperture 25. ifi gravitational valve 26 is employed to control the aperture 16 of the receptacle 15. Said valve has a stein 27 that extends through the apertures of the bridge loop 19 and the cross-bar 2%. rlhe said stein 27 is provided adjacent to its upper end with an aperture 2S in which a rod, not shown. may be in eited by the operator for the con# veiiient raising of the valve 26 after the cap 6 is removed from the body 1. llanifestlv when the bridge loop 19 and the cross-bar 2li are disconnected from the receptacle 15, the said elements 19 and 2l, together with the valve 26, may be removed from the f'oiaminous receptacle 1:3 to facilitate the thorough cleansing thereof. u
The flange 17 of the receptacle 15 is interposed between the flanges of the casing body 1 and the cap 6, and gaskets are arranged above and below said flange 1'? so as to render the connection between the casing` and the receptacle 15 steam-tight.
ln addition to the elements thus far alluded to, iny novel still comprises removable doine 30 having a reduced lower portion e1 'that is socleted and held by frictional Contact iii the collar flange 7 of the cap 6. rlhe said dome is provided with two, more or less, outlet pipes 32 for vapor, and is provided at its upper side with two handles 33, so as to permit of its being independently lifted off the cap 6.
ln the practical operation of my novel still, the cap 6 is removed for the placing of the fruit in the foraininous receptacle 15,
The said foraminous reand the cap is then replacedand the casing body l subjected to the proper degree of heat, in any approved manner. Incidental to the use of the still, it will be observed that the foraminous receptacle l5 effectively prevents the heavy materia-l, such as apples and peaches, adhering to the inner side of the body l, with the result that injury to the material is precluded, and the likelihood of a bad tastebeing imparted to the brandy is done away with. Onthe other hand-only the liquefied substance will pass through the foraminations of the receptacle, and when the liquid is put in a state of ebullition7 the contents of both casing body l and receptacle 15 Will be kept in motion, with the result that the liability of burning is reduced to a minimum.
When the cap V6 or the dome 30 is removed, and the valve is lifted through the medium of a rod placed in the aperture of the stein thereof, the contents of the foraminous receptacle may be let into the channel 3 in the bottom of the body l to be drained from the still.
During the operation of the still, the pipes 32 may be and preferably are cooled in the ordinary manner, or in any other approved manner.
Having described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is: y
A still comprising a casing body having a drainage channel in its bottom, a valved drainage pipe carried by the body and communicating With said channel, a 'oraminous receptacle supported in the casing body in spaced relation thereto and having a discharge opening in its bottom, an apertured bridge loop and an apertured cross-bar detachably secured in the i'oraminous receptacle, a gravitational valve complementary to the discharge aperture in the oraininous receptacle and having a stem guided in the apertures of the bridge loop and cross-bar, loops or eyes secured to the foraininous receptacle and arranged Within lthe same, and means closing-thecasing body and inclosing the receptacle therein and having vent means. Y
In testimony whereof I afix my signature.
