Abstract

1278121 Mounting immersion heaters ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 April 1970 [5 March 1969] 11751/69 Heading H5H An immersion heating element 1 is sealingly mounted in a hot water tank having an internally threaded boss 8 by expanding a rubber sealing block 6 by compression between a backer plate 2 carrying the element 1 and a front plate 7 bearing either directly, Fig. 1, or indirectly, Fig. 8, against the outer surface of the boss 8, such that the surface of block 6 is pressed into sealing engagement with the screw thread and/or a cooperating internal annular surface of the boss 8. A bolt 5 attached to plate 2 has nuts 5b and appropriate washers for drawing plates 2, 7, together. Plate 2 also carries a thermostat rod 3a in a tube 4 for a thermostat 3. Bolt 5 is used for earthing the element 1. Sealing block 6 has an axially directed skirt 6f, Fig. 1, which may have a tapered inner surface, Fig. 8, co-operating with the angled periphery of plate 2. Block 6 may also have a flange 6g, Fig. 8.
