Abstract
1277435 Valves; pipe couplings WHESSOE Ltd 1 Jan 1970 [20 Feb 1969] 9259/69 Headings F2G and F2V In a coupling assembly composed of coupling and adaptor members 8 and 32, 33, respectively, the coupling member is provided with a closure member 27 biased by a spring 30 into engagement with a seat 29, and the adaptor member is provided with a closure member 35 biased by a spring 44 into engagement with a seat formed on portion 32 of the adaptor. The respective passages through the coupling and adaptor members are maintained closed by the two closure members both when the two members are separate and when the assembly is completed, as by inserting portion 32 within coupling member portion 5 and appropriate swinging of clips 6. Subsequent to completion of the assembly as per above, the flow path through the assembly can be opened by moving lever 14 in a clockwise sense such that, by virtue of the engagement between teeth 16 and pins 18, actuator member 17 is moved towards the right, as seen in the drawing, until it unseats closure member 35 and brings the latter into engagement with a stop 34. Thereafter, further movement of the lever 14 results in the lever bearing on actuator 17, and hence in a movement to the left, as seen in the drawing of the sleeve which surrounds the actuating member and which carries the coupling closure member, the latter movement serving to open the coupling member valve. In the event of the actuator and coupling members being detached, either accidentally or purposely, the two valve closure members are immediately urged to their respective seats by the action of springs 30 and 44. Once detached, the coupling and adaptor members can have dust caps attached thereto (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown). The free portion of the coupling member duct is rotatably attached to an inlet pipe (2, Fig. 1).
