1277494 Ballasting floating-structures SANTA FE INTERNATIONAL CORP 3 Sept 1969 43675/69 Heading B7M [Also in Division E1] A drilling vessel has a deck 20 supported by hollow stabilizing-columns 24 upon twin hulls 12, each hull being provided with ballasting chambers 96 so that when the platform is on site the hulls and the lower portions of the columns can be submerged to minimize the effects of wave action. A room P houses pumps and valves to transfer sea water to or from each ballasting chamber as required. Compartments 102 for water required for drilling purposes may be used for ballasting. Pumps for fuel oil, fresh water and "drilling water" are also lodged in the room P, these liquids being stored in compartments 98, 154, 162, 176 as indicated. Ballasting water can be transferred from one hull to the other.
