Abstract

1276199 Consuming obnoxious gases UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 2 Dec 1969 58705/69 Heading F4B A thermal treatment apparatus for thermally treating a contaminated air stream containing objectionable contaminating components comprises a distribution zone 1 which annularly surrounds a perforate frusto-conically shaped member 2, a fuel inter nozzle 4 extending into the member 2, and a combustion chamber 6 downstream from the end of the perforate member 2. In operation, contaminated air is either tangentially blown into the member 2 (Fig. 2, not shown), or passes helically around the combustion chamber to be initially preheated (Fig. 3, not shown) before entering the member 2. In both embodiments the air can either pass into the member 2 through apertures 10 or directly into the combustion chamber through outlets 9.
