Abstract

1276010 Electro-photographic apparatus RANK XEROX Ltd 20 Oct 1969 [24 Oct 1968] 51357/69 Headings G2A and G2H A rotating photo-conductive drum 19 is exposed line-by-line to a moving original through either a first or a second slit. The first slit is open and is used when the original comprises line images; and the second slit is closed by a screen having parallel opaque and transparent lines and is used when the original comprises a continuous tone image. A projector (22), Fig. 1A (not shown), comprises a carriage (23) which transports an original (24), e.g. a microfilm, past a lamp (LMP-1); and a mirror (28) reflects the image via one of the slits on to the drum. The open slit is defined by the lower ends of arms 41, 43, extending across the width of the drum. When the closed slit is required, a selector (81), Fig. 1 (not shown), operates a circuit (80) to energize a solenoid SOL-1. This rotates a shaft 72 and cams 71 thereon engage a bracket 75 which pivots arms 41, 43 about pins 45 to bring a screen 53 on arm 43 into the optical path. Cams 85 controlled by a solenoid SOL-2 are movable with respect to pins 87, 89 on the arms to vary the spacing between arms 41, 43 and hence vary the width of the first slit.
