Abstract

1275949 Container closures; portable containers FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 28 Aug 1969 [4 Sept 1968] 42932/69 Headings B8D and B8T. A container comprises a thermoplastic receptacle 1 having a circular cross-sectional neck with a cylindrical portion adjacent the open end thereof, a constriction 3 adjacent the other end thereof and a projection 2 between said cylindrical portion and said constriction, a thermoplastic cover 6 having a brim 7 for abutment with that outer surface of said projection 2 nearer said cylindrical portion, and a lip 8 for abutment with that inside surface of the constriction 3 nearer the cylindrical portion; the abutment of the lip and brim with the respective surfaces of the constriction and projection occurring when the cover is positioned on the receptacle or under the action of an axial or oblique force when the cover is in position, and a clamping ring 4 of such shape that a part 5 of it can extend into and engage an outer surface of the constriction 3. A groove defined between the brim 7 and lip 8 may house a sealing ring 10. The cover may be reinforced by radial ribs 9 and be of a shape to accommodate the bottom of a further receptacle for ease of stacking. The receptacle may be cuboid or barrel-shaped and have handles (11), Fig. 1 (not shown).
