Abstract

1,104,001. Container closure. E. J. TREANOR. 30 Nov., 1965 [9 Dec., 1964; 15 April, 1965], Nos. 50031/64 and 16141/65. Heading B8T. A container closure which is difficult for a child to remove consists of a cap with diametrically opposed tooth-like locking formations 36 on the inner wall of its skirt 30 which are brought into engagement with diametrically opposed tooth-like formations 39 on the container neck or on a component secured to the neck. The cap is rotated until its formations engage stops 42 at the end of the formations on the container; the formations are urged into mutual engagement by a resilient plate 37 in the cap which is forced against the container mouth, and an axial force is required to disengage the formations before the cap can be removed. Alternatively the cap formations consist of opposed spigots, and the container formations are arranged helically so that as the cap is rotatably applied it is drawn axially on to the container. The cap formation may be located on a plug part depending into the container neck, and instead of a plate 37 the force between the parts may be provided by a resilient ring or disc, in the latter case it may comprise a resilient plastics foam integral with the cap top. Alternatively the resilient plate has a concave underface and a sloping circumferential edge, Fig. 21 not shown, and has a plug part snap-fitted into a socket depending from the cap top.
