Abstract

1275946 Heat pipes JUNKERS FLUGZEUGUND MOTORENWERKE and K H HOCKER 25 Aug 1969 [28 Jan 1969] 42254/69 Heading F4U In a heat pipe comprising a closed chamber 25 containing a vapourizable liquid and one or several capillary bodies 27 produced from fine mesh wire or from sheet metal provided with capillaries, the internal surface 24 is formed with capillaries 26 extending transverse to the direction of liquid flow in the capillary bodies. As shown, the capillary bodies 27 communicate with the capillaries 26 through capillary crosspieces 29 consisting of grooved sheet metal. These cross-pieces also form a support structure for the bodies 27 and are held in position in longitudinal grooves 32. In use heat is supplied at 5 to the end wall 36 of the chamber which wall is provided with capillaries 26a. Heat is dissipated at 10. In alternative embodiments (see Figs. 2-14, not shown) various crosssectional shaped capillary bodies are employed (see Figs. 6-8, 10). A single or a plurality of bodies can be used and these are connected to each other and to the capillaries (26) by means of cross-members (29) and/or supporting structures (31). The chamber cross-section can be rectangular (Fig. 14) and the capillaries may comprise closed tubes or grooves of rectangular, semicircular or pear-shaped cross-section (see Fig. 16).
