Abstract
1,271,452. Projectile fuzes. FRATELLI BORLETTI S.p.A. 7 July, 1969 [5 July, 1968], No. 34088/69. Heading F3A. A percussion fuze for non-rotating projectiles, e.g. rockets, effective at direct and oblique angles of impact, comprises a percussion cap 6 mounted in a slide 8 which is movable under delay action from a safe position to an armed position where the percussion cap is aligned with a striker 3; a safety inertia bolt 16 formed with a conical head 15; and a pull-out wire 17 locking the bolt 16 in its safety position. The slide 8, bolt 16 and a powder train 19 are mounted in a body 9 which, in the safe position of the slide 8, is held against axial displacement in the fuze body 7 by a projection 4 of the slide. In use, following removal of the wire 17 and upon launching a projectile fitted with the fuze, the bolt 16 sets back and the slide, which is of the rack-type, is moved to its armed position by a spring 5. On impact with the target, the wall 12 of a cap 1 is deformed and transmits the impact to the striker 3. A recess 11 in the cap enables an axial component to be transmitted to the striker at oblique angles of impact. If the angle of impact is too small for point detonation, the body 9, no longer retained by the projection 4, brings the percussion cap against the striker. In the event of accidental set-back of the bolt 16, e.g. by dropping the projectile, the conical portion of the bolt can re-engage the slide and return it to its safe position.
