Abstract

1,270,807. A.C. motors. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 11 June, 1969 [13 June, 1968], No. 28233/68. Heading H2A. A reluctance motor comprises a stator wound to provide a magnetic field having p pole pairs P#3, and a rotor in the core of which there are p main flux barriers 22 following the flux paths between alternate pairs of adjacent poles when the rotor is in its direct axis position but lying athwart such paths in the quadrature axis position, the angles subtended at the rotor axis between the two ends of each main flux barrier and between the ends of adjacent main flux barriers being #/p. Auxiliary flux barriers 23, 24 may be provided extending either parallel to or between adjacent ones of the main flux barriers. The barriers are constituted by slits. Squirrel cage bars are accommodated around the rotor periphery in holes 21 and in grooves disposed between the two ends of each main flux barrier or between the ends of adjacent main flux barriers.
