Abstract

1,269,350. Induction motors. G. L. LANG. 11 Nov., 1969 [11 Dec., 1968], No. 55045/69. Heading H2A. [Also in Division H1] A flux conducting core for an A.C. electromagnetic device comprises a plurality of ferromagnetic portions defining spaced, parallel magnetic paths and having different properties of magnetic hysteresis and/or susceptibility to flow of induced eddy-currents so as to provide different flux phase displacements, there being a non-magnetic gap between the different portions to reduce magnetic shunting between them. The stator poles of the two pole squirrel cage induction motor shown each comprise two portions made of different magnetic material and separated by an air gap 20, one portion being made of magnetic laminations and the other comprising a phase retardant block, 25 or 26. The motor operates in the same way as a shaded pole motor.
