Abstract

1,270,281. Tear tabs for heat shrinkable bags. W. R. GRACE & CO. 27 May, 1969 [27 June, 1968], No. 26823/69. Headings B8C and B8K. In order to facilitate the removal of an article such as a turkey or ring bologna from a plastics bag 10 heat shrunk therearound, at least one tab 21 having a tear initiation notch 20 is provided on the bag's lower edge. To open the bag the tab 21 which normally lies flat against a bag side is lifted and pulled across the bag bottom to remove a tear strip (31, Fig. 5) formed from a heat seal 17 and a skirt (18, Figs. 1, 3). The bag may be made from lay-flat tubing composed of biaxially oriented cross-linked polythene or vinylidene chloride-vinyl chloride copolymer. In a second embodiment tabs (36, 37, Fig. 7) are provided at the centre of the seal 17.
