Abstract
1,269,957. Cellular vinyl chloride polymers. FOSFATBOLAGET A.B. 21 April, 1969 [22 April, 1968], No. 20327/69. Headings C3C, C3G and C3P. An article having a uniform cellular structure and a smooth surface is prepared from a starting material, free from liquid plasticizers, the starting material comprising (a) a graft copolymer of vinyl chloride on to an ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer; (b) a mixture of polyvinyl chloride and an ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer; or (c) a mixture of polyvinyl chloride and the graft copolymer of (a) ; and containing ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer in an amount of from 3 to 50% by weight based on the total weight of the starting material, by admixing the starting material with a chemical expanding agent, and optionally with a stabilizer and/or a lubricant, moulding or extruding the material at a temperature above the decomposition temperature of the expanding agent to form an article and immediately allowing the article to expand. In the examples graft copolymers of vinyl chloride and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyethylene, acrylonitrile-butadienestyrene copolymer, methyl methacrylatebutadiene copolymer, acrylic resin, ethyleneacrylate copolymer containing Ba/Cd stabilizer, triphenyl phosphate, epoxy plasticizer, polythene wax and TiO 2 and expanded using azodicarbonamide.
