Abstract

1,269,021. Delivering sheets; feeding sheets. J. W. CLEMENT CO. 11 June, 1970 [25 June, 1969], No. 28334/70. Heading B8R. Apparatus of the general construction disclosed in Specification 1,221,450 includes means whereby, when a malfunction signal is received by the monitoring device from any one feeder unit, all the following units and the calipers associated therewith are rendered inoperative. Such a signal energizes, as it reaches each stage of the monitoring device shift register, two solenoids 110, 116, Fig. 8, associated with the following unit. The solenoid 110 opens a valve 112 to admit air under pressure to an oscillating pneumatic sucker 22, Figs. 5 and 8, for separating signatures from the bottom of a pile in a magazine. The solenoid 116 moves an arm 118 to hold the sensing arm 32 of the caliper in its no-malfunction position. Thus a faulty book diverted by the ejector mechanism will contain only signatures fed to it at or before the malfunctioning unit.
