1,268,774. Stabilizers between towing and towed vehicles. J. C. GREEN, R. D. GREEN and P. W. HAYES. 17 April, 1969 [4 April, 1968], No. 16277/68. Heading B7T. [Also in Division F2] A stabilizer for use between a towing and towed vehicle comprises a cylinder 10 with a piston 15 intermediate of a piston rod 14 which extends through a first bush 11 to a socket coupler 3-3, and through a second bush 12, there being a universal coupling 20 at the end of the cylinder opposite to bush 11 such that when coupler 33 is connected to a touring vehicle ball 34 and coupling 20 to towed vehicle frame 31, pivotal movement between the vehicles is damped by fluid being throttled at 18 when passing the piston between cylinder chambers 16, 17. One side of the bushes are provided with seals 13 and the other side with scrapers (not shown). The coupling 20 consists of a U-shaped plate 21 which closes the cylinder end and mounts a tube 23 around a bolt 22. A second tube 26 connected transversely to the first envelopes a further bolt connected to a plate by which this end of the stabilizer is bolted to the towed vehicle frame 31. Chamber 32 may be filled with a lubricant and a sleeve extend between coupler 33 and the cylinder.
