Abstract
1,268,129. Carboxylic acids. BP CHEMICALS Ltd. 23 Dec., 1969, No. 62547/69. Heading C2C. In a process for the preparation of aliphatic carboxylic acids, e.g. formic, acetic, propionic and butyric by the oxidation of paraffinic hydrocarbons, e.g. a light distillate fraction C 4 -C 8 , in the liquid phase at elevated temperature and pressure with molecular oxygen the ratio of light ends recycled to the reactor to oxygen is greater than 1.6 to 1. The light ends are obtained from the aqueous phase of the reactor product by distillation at a BP up to 99‹ C.
