Abstract

In an electrical capacitive liquid sensing, apparatus an oscillatory circuit 10 comprising two halves of a pair of bridge arms of a centre topped secondary winding 11 of a transformer 12, the bridge arms comprising a variable capacitor 13 and a fixed reference capacitor 14 and a pre-set reference capacitor 15, the arrangement is such that the variable capacitor 13 is disposed at the top or bottom of an aircraft fuel tank so that the value of the capacitor varies and when the fuel reaches a predetermined high or low level to activate or not an oscillator comprising an N-P-N transistor 16, a positive voltage supply line 17, the transformer primary 18, a pair of resistors 19, 20 and a negative voltage supply line 21, depending on whether a re-generative or de-generative feedback is supplied to the base electrode of transistor 16 when the fuel level reaches the predetermined level, the oscillator ceases to oscillate. The output signal of the oscillator is fed via a capacitor 28 to a clamping diode 29 and the clamped signal is smoothed by a resistor 30 and capacitor 31 and then applied to the P-N-P transistor 28 forming part of a D.C. amplifier. The oscillation fluctuation due to fuel surface ripple are prevented by a capacitor 32.
