Abstract

1,266,623. Palladium catalysts. KNAPSACK A.G. 9 Sept., 1969 [24 Sept., 1968], No. 44482/69. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] Catalyst compositions, for the preparation of vinyl acetate from ethylene, acetic acid and molecular oxygen, comprise metallic palladium on a carrier of which at least 80% of the carrier particles have a diameter between 0.1 and 1.5 mm, with optional activators such as alkali or alkaline earth metal compounds, carboxylates or the metals Cu, Au, Zn, Cd, Sn, Pb, Mn, Cr, Mo, W, U, Fe, Co, Ni, Nb, V and Ta. The carrier may be silicic acid, kieselguhr, silica gel, alumina, aluminium silicate or phosphate, pumice, silicon carbide, spinels, asbestos or active carbon.
