Abstract
1,265,769. Radioactive isotopes. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 18 June, 1970 [20 June, 1969], No. 29601/70. Heading G6R. A solution containing technetium 99 m. for use in medical research and diagnosis is prepared by elution of a column of an inorganic material on which is adsorbed parent fission product molybdenum 99 or at least 99À99% radionuclidic purity. Irradiated U0 2 is dissolved in H 2 O 2 and H 2 SO 4 and the solution treated with aqueous SO 2 . Mo 99 is adsorbed in a column containing silver-coated charcoal and eluted with NaOH solution. After further purification the Mo 99 is adsorbed on a column of alumina to form the generator from which Tc 99 m. is eluted when required by isotonic saline solution, water, dilute acid, or methyl ethyl ketone. Zirconium oxide may be used in place of alumina.
