Abstract

1,263,483. Automatic liquid chromatography apparatus. BECKMAN INSTRUMENTS Inc. 26 March, 1969 [2 April, 1968], No. 26916/70. Divided out of 1,263,481. Heading B1X. A sampling valve suitable for use in the high pressure automatic liquid chromatography systems described in Specifications 1,263,481 and 1,263,482, comprises stationary plate 75 and rotary plate 76. Rotary plate 76 comprises bores 77-80 (Fig. 11), bores 77, 78 being connected through sample-metering chamber 82 (Figs. 7, 8) while bores 79, 80 are directly connected by a by-pass bore 81 (Figs. 8, 11). Each of the ports of the bores is countersunk to allow resilient shear type seals to be positioned around the port. Stationary plate 75 (Fig. 9) also comprises ports 100, 101 to allow inert gas, e.g. nitrogen at 25 psig, to be passed between the plates 75, 76 to flush and cleanse the plate surfaces of sample or eluent.
